Passage

_About

“Passage” a collaborative land art installation by Jordi NN and Mantvydas Vilys, is a profound exploration of transience, symbolism, and mythology.

At the center of the work is the idea of a Gate or Door, which in many cultures symbolizes crossing from one phase of life to another. Gates often represent both physical and spiritual transitions. In this piece, the gate is made from natural materials found in the forest, connecting it to the environment. The fire transforms the space, creating a ritual-like experience of cleansing and change.

Fire plays a key role, symbolizing transformation, destruction, and renewal. The fire sculpture is alive and temporary, reflecting how life is constantly changing. As the flames consume the structure, they highlight the fleeting nature of the moment, but also how something new can emerge from the ashes. Fire’s dual role as both a destroyer and purifier echoes myths about change, allowing viewers to feel the temporary and ever-shifting nature of both the artwork and life itself.

The installation’s fleeting nature reflects the transience of life, as the fire consumes the gate, symbolizing the temporary nature of all things. Yet, from this destruction comes the possibility of renewal, mirroring the natural cycle of endings and beginnings seen in both nature and mythology. By watching the sculpture burn, viewers are invited to reflect on their own life transitions—whether it’s entering new stages, letting go of the past, or embracing the unknown. The fire, as both a destructive and creative force, reminds us that change, though challenging, is essential for growth and renewal.
